What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis can be described as a ‘relaxed state of concentration'. We enter this state several times a day e.g. daydreaming and watching television. This ‘state' is utilised as a way of bypassing the conscious mind, and speaking directly to the subconscious mind – the part of your mind that is responsible for most behaviours. ‘Suggestions' are then made directly to the subconscious mind in order to make long lasting changes in behaviour, and increase efficiency of mental processing. Contrary to the illusion of stage hypnotism, you are not actually ‘asleep' when in a state of hypnosis, nor can you be made to say or do anything against your will. Being ‘in trance' is a very pleasant and relaxing state of mind and body.
